Our Story

Originally “Mrs. Foster’s Younger Set”, the founders partnered with local celebrity and host of Popeye’s Playhouse Chuck Zink, better known as “Skipper Chuck” in 1970. Popeye’s Playhouse aired from 1958-1982 on WTVJ Miami and is fondly remembered as an iconic local children’s show.

The schools have been a fixture in the community for over 50 years and we look forward to continuing the legacy of providing high quality infant and toddler child care services as well as early childhood education and kindergarten readiness.

Skipper Chuck’s Child Care Center uses a holistic approach to learning, focusing on the following domains to drive instruction:

  • science and engineering
  • language and literacy
  • physical development
  • creative arts
  • social and emotional
  • math
  • social studies

The Creative CurriculumĀ® for Preschool is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that features exploration and discovery as a way of learning, enabling children to develop confidence, creativity, and lifelong critical thinking skills. It is designed to help educators at all levels of experience plan and implement a developmentally appropriate, content-rich program for children with diverse backgrounds and skill levels.

Our program fosters the development of the total child by ensuring a rich and supportive environment to facilitate physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development. A variety of materials, equipment, and resources are provided to ensure their growth. Under the guidance of our teachers, they will learn to make wise choices, tolerate and respect individual differences, and have a curiosity for and love of learning that will take them into their elementary education. Parental involvement is key in ensuring both child and parent benefit from the home away from home experience.

Children are individuals, and although there is a pattern of development within a specific time frame, children learn and grow at different rates according to their personalities, temperaments, culture, and learning styles. It is our goal to honor the individuality of each child while preparing them for their future in education and in life.

There are three Skipper Chuck’s locations – two campuses in Miami Gardens and one in North Miami. Choose a location that is most convenient for you! See our contact page for specific addresses and phone numbers.
